Nestled above the Zambezi River, overlooking its winding waters and the dramatic cliffs of the Batoka Gorge lies Taita Falcon Lodge. This wilderness retreat is located in the heart of Zambia, downriver from the mighty Victoria Falls.

This secluded lodge has a total of 7 en-suite chalets all of which are designed and built using local materials, with stones from the gorge and reeds from the river.  Each chalet is named after a bird of prey that can be seen soaring the skies. Décor is simple, yet stylish, with hints of handmade crafts and natural features, keeping in tune with its wilderness surrounds.

The lodge itself was designed to showcase the dramatic views that surround it. With its vast viewing platform, open-air bar and lounge perched over the sheer cliffs, it’s the perfect place to sit and take in Zambia’s scenic vistas. Winding stone lined pathways lead the way through the grounds from the main lodge, bar, pool and boma area around to the secluded chalets.

There are various walks to explore the gorge and the indigenous forests, where ancient mopanis, white seringas, marulas, leadwoods and African star chestnuts dot the diverse landscape. Beyond the lodge there are a vast array of activities to suit everyone, from thrill seekers to wildlife lovers. Experience the falls in all its wonder on foot, on the water and even from the air, there are more ways than one to discover this part of wild Zambia.  

Taita is located in the heart of Zambia, downriver from the mighty Victoria Falls and a short drive from the vibrant town of Livingstone. The nearest airport is just outside Livingstone and from there it’s a 45minute drive to Taita Falcon. We have an airport shuttle service available which needs to be pre booked prior to arrival.  

Taita Falcon Lodge is an ideal base to explore the falls and experience the many activities offered in the area. Some excursions will include a pick-up from the lodge however we also offer a shuttle service at an at additional charge and recommend combining a few activities in a day before returning back to the lodge in the evening.  We’ve included a list of popular activities below:

Some activities are best booked prior to arrival, especially in peak season but most can be arranged during your stay. Contact reservations for a full price list as we can also recommend combinations that can be done in the same day to save on transfers.

Directions

The lodge is approximately 45 minutes drive from Livingstone and is well signposted from the main Livingstone / Victoria Falls road. The turnoff to the Lodge is 9km from Livingstone and about 1 km before the Victoria Falls border. From the turnoff the road is well signposted – over the railway line and right again at the big Baobab Tree (Lookout Tree). Access by road requires a high clearance vehicle as the last 11km of the road is a dirt road and is a slow drive through the bush.

Accessing the area is straightforward. You can fly directly into Livingstone Airport from Johannesburg, Lusaka, and other regional centers. 

Alternatively, scheduled and charter airlines fly into Victoria Falls Airport (over the boarder in Zimbabwe) so note that additional transfer charges apply and you'll need Zimbabwean visas for most nationalities.
