Kafue
General Information
Kafue is a town situated in the Lusaka Province of Zambia. It is located in the Southern parts of the country and has a total population of approximately 220 000 inhabitants. The town is named after the Kafue River on which it has been laid out. Kafue acts as the southern gateway to the central Zambian plateau.
The town Kafue is located at the foot of granite hills and on the Northern banks of a river. The inhabitants of this area occupy themselves with agricultural and farming activities and fishing is also a favourite amongst the locals as the town is situated near the Kafue Flats, the river’s wide flood plains.
Kafue National Park is the largest national park in Zambia, covering an area of about 22,400 km². The park is home to over 55 different species of animals and is the second largest park in Africa. The park is named for the Kafue River.
