Kawambwa
General Information
Kawambwa is a town situated in the Luapula Province of Zambia. It is located in the North-Western parts of the country on the edge of the plateau above the Luapula Valley. This town serves as the administrative centre of the province because the colonial authorities preferred the climate here as opposed to the hotter valley below.
Zambias largest tea plantation is located only a few kilometres from this town. A refugee camp was established in 1998 near Kawambwa by the United Nations agencies. This area is well-known for its magnificent waterfalls in the vicinity.
Near to Kawambwa are two of Zambia's most impressive waterfalls, the mighty Lumangwe Falls 50km to the North-east on the Kalungwishi River and 16km West, the beautiful Ntumbachushi Falls on the Ngona River.
