Mumbwa
General Information
Mumbwa is a district of Zambia, located in the Central Province, along the Great West Road. As at the 2000 Zambian Census, the district had a population of 158,861 people.
Mumbwa is home to the country's biggest Cotton Ginnery, which towers over the Great West Road behind well-watered lawns. The Zambia Air Force has a base in Mumbwa.
The predominant tribe in this district is the Ila, who speak a language known as Sala. Mineral mining copper and gold was done here in the past and small scale mines operated here. However, most are now closed, though the gold mine at Luiri has been revived.

Activities in Mumbwa
Mumbwa has an array of activities and attractions of all sorts. The Mumbwa Caves is an archaeological site in Zambia. The site has yielded artefacts that date back from the Middle Stone Age, Late Stone Age and the Iron Age.
The first commercial copper mines in Zambia were the Sable Antelope mine and Hippo mine in Mumbwa, which are now heritage sites.
Kafue National Park borders the district to the west.
There are plenty of little markets and shops to browse through.
