General Information

The majestic Zambezi River is the fourth longest river in Africa and is home to a great variety of plant and animal life.  Most of the region is covered by the Zambezi National Park, with many of the accommodation establishments offering good rates and exciting adventures into the park.  The Lower Zambezi sits directly opposite Zimbabwe's Mana Pools

Indigenous bush, flowing river and a unique birdlife makes up this area drawing visitors from all around the world to experience the magic of the region.  The Zambezi ranges from shallow flood plains, to deep rocky pools and sand beds making the activities one can do varied and fun, also making fishing a favourite pastime with species such as Bream, Chessa and Tiger Fish.  Many of the lodges offer fishing trips as well as overnight fishing safaris.  These excursions also bring with them great wildlife viewing.

The bush and game park that the Lower Zambezi offers has a wide variety of birdlife including vultures, raptors and bee eaters to name but a few.  Bird watchers will delight in visions of kingfishers, waders, plovers and herons.

The Lower Zambezi valley is know for its elephant sightings.  The number of elephants found here have increased in recent years, making it an ideal location for spotting these great creatures.  Many of the camps and owners are actively involved in their own conservation work in helping the local communities, the region's wildlife and general conservation in maintaining the unspoilt beauty of the Lower Zambezi.

The best time to visit this area is from June to September, and fishing is at its best in September and October months.
