Mfuwe
General Information
Mfuwe is a small village just over 100 kms from Chipata in the Eastern Province of Zambia servicing the tourism industry. Home to an international airport, Mfuwe International Airport, the village is easily accessible. There are no taxis as such, airport transfers are free and pre-arranged with the lodges.
The most notable thing about Mfuwe is that it is the gateway to the South Luangwa National Park and other wildlife areas in the Luangwa Valley. There are daily bus services from Lusaka to Mfuwe as well as daily flights in season. This area has a beautiful scenery and culture. The people of Zambia as a whole are kind, friendly and welcoming. Mfuwe is regularly visited by wild roaming animals – be vigilant especially after dark.
Things to do and See in Mfuwe
Mfuwe itself does not have very much in terms of activities. There are a few local bars and some arts and crafts for sale. Tribal Textiles is a must-see however – textiles are hand drawn and painted in outdoor workshops. Tourists are able to tour through the workshops giving them an exclusive insight into this unique process.
The South Luangwa National Park is known for its abundant bird- and wildlife. Just inside the Mfuwe Gate entrance, the river is often crowded with hippos, while the woodlands are home to hundreds of bird species. Accommodation consists of beautiful lodges and bush camps – all perfect for spotting wildlife. There are luxury and budget options to choose from.

There are no restaurants in the village however the local bars might be cooking something on the open fire which they will happily serve to their visitors!
